Gracias por tu mensaje. Siempre es bueno saber de ustedes. A Daylins le va muy bien por Brasil, aprendiendo mucho del mundo pentecostal. En la iglesia todo va bien, en estos días estamos trabajando una cuestión de interés para toda Cuba. Resulta que a propuesta del CENESEX (Centro Nacional de Estudios sobre Sexualidad) dirigido por Mariela Castro Espín, hija de Raúl Castro se llevará al Parlamento Cubano una ley para aprobar el matrimonio entre gays y lesbianas, así como el derecho a la adopción de hijos. Por supuesto, esto implica un cambio en el Código Civil Cubano, y de ser aceptada la ley pondría a Cuba en unos de los países delanteros del Caribe y Latinoamérica al respecto. Nosotros estamos trabajando desde la Iglesia, gracias a Dios la comunidad de Alamar no tiene ningún prejuicio con esto, pero otras Iglesias en Cuba sí. Por supuesto que parte de la sociedad cubana tampoco está de acuerdo con esta medida, pero pienso que será una tarea difícil para el Parlamento Cubano. Las noticias están en Internet, quizás puedas buscarlas y seguir el proceso mejor.

Me parece bien la fecha que escogiste para venir. Ya para el día 17 la Asamblea de la FIBAC debe haber concluido. Yo trataré de buscar un auto para ustedes más barato pues son pocos y me parece que la tarifa del ómnibus de la FIBAC les resulte un poco caro. De todas maneras espero tus sugerencias. Con las cajas de libros que John quiere enviar al Seminario de Matanzas no hay problemas. Este año Estela me pidió ayuda para trabajar con los Pastores por la Paz, el grupo que viene es bastante grande, son alrededor de 160 caravanistas y hay que hacer varios grupos, así que estaré bien ocupado desde el día 19 que llegan a Cuba. Luego estaré en los almacenes como supervisor de las distribuciones, así que todo está seguro.

Lo que me pides de las conferencias te las puedo enviar, pero primero me gustaría adaptarlas para una página web, más bien en forma de artículos. Dime si las quieres en español o inglés, no hay problemas con eso.

Respecto a Zimbabwe es bien cierto que la situación política allá está demasiado peligrosa, la Asociación está considerando el envío nuestro allá. No obstante, hoy me llegó la carta de invitación para la India. Debo de estar allá en Octubre para la reunión de la directiva y ahora en Cuba debemos hacer los trámites de viajes con tres meses de antelación. Nada, creo que si logro superar este año, necesitaré un sabático el próximo, aunque estoy un poco asustado porque la Asociación tiene una agenda de trabajo para mí el año próximo bien cargada de trabajo. Están pensando en una gira por el Caribe que incluye Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Dominicana, Bahamas, Trinidad y Tobago, Haití y Curaçao, para ampliar la red de la Asociación, pero bueno, eso solo está en planes, no hay nada concreto.

Bueno amigo, esas son las noticias por acá. Espero que la paz de Dios sea contigo y con todos en Atlanta.

Thanks for your message. It’s always great to hear from you all. Things are going well for Daylins in Brazil. She’s learning a lot about the Pentecostal world. In the church (of Alamar) everything is going well, and we are working on a matter of interest for all of Cuba.

It turns out that a proposal from CENESEX (National Center for the Study of Sexuality) directed by Mariela Castor Espín, daughter of Raul Castro, will be taken to the Cuban Parliament. The proposed law would approve marriage between gays and lesbians, as well as the right for them to adopt children.

Of course, this implies a change in the Cuban Civil Code, and, upon being adopted, the law would make Cuba one of the leading countries in the Caribbean and Latin America as regards this issue.

The church (Alamar) is working hard on this—thank God the community of Alamar has no prejudice concerning this; however, other churches in Cuba do. It’s for sure that there are parts of the Cuban society that are not in agreement with this measure either, and I think it’s going to be a difficult matter for the Cuban Parliament. The news is on the Internet. Perhaps you can look for it and follow the process better in that way.

(Regarding Oakhurst’s proposed trip to Cuba this November.)
The dates you have chosen to come seem good to me. On the 17th (of November) the Assembly of the Fraternity of Baptists should have concluded. I will try to look for a cheap car for you all. As there are not many of you, I think that using the Fraternity’s van would turn out to be a little expensive. Anyway, I await your suggestions.

Concerning the boxes of books that John (Shippee) wants to send to the seminary in Matanzas, there are no problems. This year, Estella (president of the Fraternity of Baptists in Cuba and coordinator with Pastors for Peace) asked me to help work with the Pastors for Peace. The group that is coming is large. There are around 160 Caravanistsas, and we must divide them up into different groups. Therefore, I will be very busy from the 19th when they arrive in Cuba. Then, I will be in the warehouses as supervisor of distribution so that everything is safe.

I can send you the things you were asking me about, but first I would like to adapt them for a web page, in the form of an article. Tell me if you want them in Spanish or English, there’s no problem with that.

(About a trip he was going to take to Zimbabwe.)
In regards to Zimbabwe, it’s very certain that the political situation there is too dangerous, and the Association (under whose auspices he would be traveling) is reconsidering our trip there. That notwithstanding, today I received a letter of invitation for a trip to India. I must be there in October for the meeting of the directors, and now, in Cuba, we must take care of trip-related paperwork three months in advance. I believe that if I manage to go this year that I will need a sabbatical the next, though I am a little scared because the Association has an agenda of work for me next year that is very heavy. They are thinking about a tour through the Caribbean that includes Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and Curacao in order to increase the network of the Association. But this is only in the planning stages, and nothing is in concrete.
