Four Churches—One Fellowship, One Mission

Four churches—two in Georgia, and two in Cuba—have formed a sister-church relationship for the purposes of ministering to and with each other, and of learning from one another.The Cuba churches are Iglesia Bautista de Alamar, ministering to residents of a large apartment complex of 100,000 residents in the suburbs of Havana, and Igleisa Bethania, located in the town of Perico, about four hours southeast of Havana in Matanzas Province.

The Georgia churches are Oakhurst Baptist in Decatur, and Kairos Fellowship, a community of believers who are also members of Oakhurst. Through shared educational programs, resources, ministries, and worship, these churches are just a few of many that are partnering to work for the benefit of residents of both countries. The Cuba churches are affiliated with the Fraternity of Baptists in Cuba, a group with approximately 35 churches and 80 missions. The Georgia churches are affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists and the American Baptist Churches (USA).

The Oakhurst and Kairos churches count as members a number of Cuban Christians who live in and around Decatur and who participate in many aspects of the churches' ministries. Cafe Mezclao, a musical group composed of Cubans and North Americans, is one such organization that presents concerts in and around Atlanta. Oakhurst has premiered compositions by Cuban composers and, during a recent Advent Celebration, presented Un Nino Como Tu, ("A Child Like You") a musical written in Cuba about the birth of Christ as seen through the eyes of Carribbean children.
